CUSTOM MADE – Loden – Alpine Pants ::…
These trousers were made for a customer from the Ötztal in Austria. The customer wanted a robust Loden Pants for high mountain tours, which also keep warm in cold and windy moments. We chose the 600 g/m² heavy Loden “Eiger”, a sturdy fabric that is particularly densely milled. From the wide color palette, we selected a dark anthracite mélange.
Since my customer already has two pairs of loden trousers made from the 435 g/m² loden in use, the personalized fit was tested and adopted. The trousers are unlined, so the wearer can decide depending on the weather whether to wear them without lining or with additional warming underwear. Side ventilation zippers support ventilation, for example, during ascent and in sunny sections.
It can be said that the loden trousers have exactly as many details as desired, no more and no less. Notable are the two patch pockets on the thighs. These are made with volume and are closed with a flap and button. For easier handling with numb hands, a robust elastic loop is sewn in for opening/closing. Due to the strength of the loden, the pockets were sewn on by hand with an invisible seam. This created a visually pleasing, “rounder” volume. The high back waistband, also made of loden on the inside, keeps the lower back warm. The hem is generously reinforced with leather on the inside to protect the loden from mountain boots and possibly from crampons.

April 2024: “After consulting with my customer, we had to decide between Etaproof and ribbed moleskin for the summer variant. We chose the ribbed moleskin made from cotton. The summer trousers were made with the same details, except the hem does not have leather. Instead, there is a reinforcement of Cordura on the inside of the hem edge and a reinforcement of the main fabric at the leg end. Summer can come!”
May 2024: “Over the weekend, your trousers arrived safely in Ötz, and I have already been wearing them frequently. They fit perfectly as always. They are still a bit stiff, but that will change. I am very pleased with them. Thank you very much for your excellent work.”
